Ice Cream, The Perfect Summer Treat
Now that the weather has warmed up here in Michigan, one favorite summer treat is always in the back of my mind, and that is ice cream. Ice cream has endless possibilities. There are all sorts of toppings and flavors to choose from, as well as a variety of forms. Different forms include bars, sandwiches, the traditional ice cream cone with a couple of scoops, sundaes, and more. You might choose to get your ice cream in a carton from the store or from the local guy pushing around an ice cream cart. Whatever your choice might be, now is the perfect time of year in Michigan to enjoy this treat.
My favorite type of ice cream treat is a homemade sundae. The following is how I create this delectable dessert. First, you have to make brownies. You could opt for box brownies and follow the simple directions on the back, or you can make them from scratch, which is very simple to do. For homemade brownies, preheat your oven to 300 degrees and grease an 8-inch square-shaped pan. In a large mixing bowl, beat 4 large eggs at medium speed until they are nice and fluffy. From here, mix in 1 cup of sugar and 1 cup of brown sugar. Mix until ingredients are combined well. Then, add in 8 ounces of melted butter, 1 ¼ cups of cocoa, 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract, and ½ cup of flour. Again, mix all ingredients until they are combined well. Once you have your batter made, simply pour it into the greased pan and bake for forty-five minutes.
Once your brownies are done, cut them to the desired portion size. Then, to make one sundae, place a square portion of fresh brownie in a bowl. Next, add a couple of scoops of your ice cream of choice. I always choose vanilla beans. After the ice cream has been added, top it with hot fudge or hot caramel, again this is your choice. I also like to add chopped nuts, such as pecans or walnuts. Then lastly, top your sundae with a big blob of whipped cream and enjoy.
This dessert should take around 1 hour from start to finish and is well worth the work. So for your next summer family gathering, bring all the fixings for sundaes instead of making something more complicated. This dessert is simple, delicious, and generally enjoyed by all. And remember to keep in mind that on holidays, calories do not count.
