As many as 1 out of 3 men experience a problem with premature ejaculation, according to Mayo Clinic. Those with this problem either ejaculate prior to intercourse, or shortly after beginning. This is not considered a medical problem unless it occurs regularly, but if it occurs even once, a man’s self-esteem can be destroyed. Although medications exist to treat this problem, there are natural methods men can use to last longer in bed.

Significance of Treatment

Premature ejaculation is a treatable condition, but a man must first be willing to bring the problem to light. It can stem from psychological factors, biological factors, or both. A variety of treatment options are available, including counselling, sexual techniques or a combination of both. In some cases, medication is necessary. Seeking help is vital for a man’s confidence and a healthy relationship.

Masturbation

One of the easiest ways to last longer in bed is to masturbate before having intercourse. Doing this one to two hours before having sex may help prevent premature ejaculation from occurring. If necessary, a man can masturbate more than once to ensure the delay of ejaculation during intercourse.

Avoid Intercourse

Mayo Clinic recommends avoiding intercourse for a short period of time, such as one week. During this time participate in other forms of sexual activity, like oral sex or touching. This may remove any stress or anxiety a man feels during intercourse, which can adversely affect his ability to perform.

The Squeeze Technique

This sexual technique is quite effective for lasting longer in bed. When done correctly, it helps repress the desire and ability to ejaculate. As soon a man feels the urge to ejaculate, he must stop stimulation, and have his partner squeeze the end of his penis between the head and the shaft. His partner should hold the squeeze for approximately 20 seconds, or until his urge to ejaculate passes. After 30 additional seconds pass, begin having intercourse again. If the urge returns quickly, repeat the process.

Stop and Start

The goal of this technique is to allow arousal to build to the point where it just cannot be contained. While having intercourse and the urge to ejaculate arises, stop for five to 10 seconds, allowing the urge to pass. Resume activity, pausing each time the urge hits. Release after repeating three or four times.

Use the Tip

Men generally feel the urge to ejaculate the deeper his penis goes. To last longer in bed, withdraw until only the tip is entering. As the urge to ejaculate passes, enter completely once more.

Therapy

Talk therapy, or cognitive behavioural therapy, helps men whose inability to last longer in bed stems from stress or anxiety. Using therapy as a means of finding coping techniques for stress and anxiety can have a positive effect on a man’s sex life. This, in combination with sexual techniques to prevent premature ejaculation, may be the answer men with this problem are looking for.

Learning how to last longer in bed takes time and practice, but the underlying cause must first be determined. Hiding from this problem, or keeping it a secret, only prolongs this condition, thus prolonging the feelings of inadequacy that accompany it.
