One of the latest wedding band trends gaining popularity across the United States is camo wedding rings. These unique rings feature a camouflage pattern either throughout the entire band or as a decorative accent. The modern patterns of U.S. military camouflage that most commonly serve as inspiration for camo wedding rings are the Woodland pattern and the Desert pattern. The Woodland pattern consists of organic shapes in four primary colors (usually brown, khaki, green and black) and the Desert pattern (or “chocolate chip” pattern) features a tan base with larger shapes and smaller clusters of various colors. Of course, some artistic license can be taken when interpreting these and other camouflage patterns in camo wedding rings.

Many people choose these rings because they, their spouse or a family member is in the military and they want to have a close and constant reminder of the strength of their commitment to both their partner and their country. These rings are particularly significant when a military spouse is deployed soon after the wedding.

While camo wedding rings can be loaded with symbolic meaning, some people choose them simply because they like their rugged style and boldly alternative look. Others wear camo wedding rings because they the outdoors or hunting. Here are some of the most popular kinds of camo wedding rings, as well as alternative designs that can also offer a camo inspired style.

Camo coated rings. One of the most prevalent styles of camo wedding rings is bands coated with a camo print. These rings have undergone a process called hydrographic painting, which is the same process used to coat many other items with a camo print, including hunting related items. A number of intricate patterns in a variety of different colors are available. These rings are dipped and coated by hand, giving each one its own unique look. More elaborate camo wedding rings will even integrate added details like cubic zirconia.

Some retailers offer to coat pre-existing rings, which is an especially good option if you have a band that is personally significant to you but perhaps not in the best condition, or is not made of a particularly valuable material.

Camo insets. Camo inset rings feature a camo print center nestled within another material, usually some sort of white or grey metal. These inset rings generally utilize titanium or stainless steel as a base band material. Both of these metals are tough, durable and affordable, though titanium offers the added benefit of an extra light weight.

Mokume gane. An ancient Japanese form of layering different metals for an organic, swirling look, mokume gane (or “wood grain”) was first seen in the decorative handles of samurai swords. For a camo look, different colored metals are layered to emulate the distinctive Woodland pattern. Some combination of white gold, green gold, yellow gold and rose gold can make for an unmistakable camo look. Mokume gane camo wedding rings are an excellent option for those seeking a more precious and subtle wedding band that nonetheless gives a nod to the classic camo pattern. Members of the military are also sure to appreciate the samurai connection and its association with honor, skill and strength.

Mother of pearl. For those looking for a naturally inspired camo pattern, mother of pearl is an excellent option. Also known as nacre, mother of pearl is the inner shell of sea mollusks and has an iridescent appearance with a subtle rainbow of colors. Mother of pearl camo wedding rings are often inset designs, and have the added bonus of being entirely unique – no two are alike. Given that the concept of camouflage was inspired by nature, it seems entirely fitting to wear a mother of pearl ring.

No matter which style of camo wedding ring you choose or what personal meaning it holds for you, it will serve as a bold and memorable choice for years to come.
